I am Bryan Joe Halterman, the oldest son of Joe and Maxine Halterman. This blog(if I can figure out how to do this blog thing) is an attempt to document their lives now that they have both passed on. I feel the need to do this because they were part of what Tom Brokaw called "The greatest generation" and hope that this will remain in cyberspace from now on for anyone who might want to look at it.

I start this blog with the day Joe and Maxine got married because that is the start of our family and it was a quick start because I was born 9 months later but there was a war going on and any time together had to be precious. I remember getting on a plane in 1966 and saying goodby to my wife and wondering if I would see her again so I cannot imagine in 1942 with a world war going on what they must have felt at that time. This is also the same generation of people that grew up during the depression.

The picture below is about the only wedding picture of the wedding. My father was stationed in California at the time and I think my mother took the train to San Francisco to meet Dad and they got married at the Presidio Chapel.

I will go back with some pictures and what I know and found in correspondence to fill in the childhood of my parents and then come back to the wedding day and continue from there.
